New '04 Toyota Prius hybridThe Toyota Prius is THE CAR for today. It has a hybrid power system with a large Nickel-Metal hydride battery and a 1497 cc gasoline engine with continuously variable transmission. A computer balances power flow as needed. Regenerative braking, excellent aerodynamics and a myriad of other design features yield 40-50 mpg and almost no pollution. It's a hatchback with roomy rear seats and baggage space. It drives just like a normal car, except for being silent at stops.

Udvar-Hazy airplane museum at DullesOn Mar. 21, 2004 Stuart, Brandon and David spent a full day at the Smithsonian's new Udvar Hazy Center at Dulles airport. A vast collection of airplanes, new and old, are on display, notably including a space shuttle, an SR-71, a Concorde, the Enola Gay, the 707 test bed, and many others. It was quite a day.

Stuart & Sandy at H'ville Aug. 2004Stuart, Sandy, Brandon, Stephanie and Amanda spent a week with us in Hendersonville Aug 7 - 15. We went white water rafting, hiking, swimming and eating.

Waterfalls in Dupont State Forest just after Hurricane Frances, Sept 09, 2004Hurricane Frances dumped 9 inches of rain at our house on Sept 8. These photos and movies show the effect on our famous falls in Dupont State Forest one day later. For comparison, there are more normal views taken in 2003.

Hurricane Ivan Sept 17, 2004Huricane Ivan hit Hendersonville 9/17/04, knocking out power at 0206. It came back 9/19 at 2150. We lost several trees, including one that leaned 30Â° toward our big LR windows. Removal required a very expensive crane and a large crew of tree men. Our house was undamaged, except for the porch and food in the freezer. Others suffered much worse damage.
